Enterprise Network & Remote Access Troubleshooting Lab
Hands-on investigation of enterprise connectivity, DNS, DHCP, addressing and remote-access failures.
TCP/IPDNSDHCPVPNRDPTroubleshooting
Purpose
Demonstrate structured network troubleshooting rather than theoretical networking knowledge.
Business scenario
A fictional remote workforce (lab scenario) experiences intermittent connectivity and access problems. This lab reproduces and diagnoses those failures methodically.
Objectives
- Diagnose IP addressing and DHCP scope issues.
- Investigate DNS resolution failures.
- Troubleshoot VPN and remote-access connectivity.
- Analyse RDP session and access problems.
- Apply a structured, layered troubleshooting method.
Environment & scope
- Segmented lab network
- DNS and DHCP services
- VPN / remote-access configuration
- Client and server test endpoints
Interview & discussion questions
- How would you isolate whether a connectivity issue is DNS or routing?
- What is your approach to troubleshooting layer by layer?
- How does split tunnelling affect VPN troubleshooting?
- What tools would you use to diagnose intermittent packet loss?
- How do DHCP lease problems present to end users?
