Windows ServerActive DirectoryGPODNSDHCPPermissions

Purpose

Develop practical Windows infrastructure capability for L2 support and systems administration roles.

Business scenario

A fictional company (lab scenario) operates an on-premises Windows domain. This lab builds and administers that domain to practise core infrastructure support tasks.

Objectives

  • Deploy Active Directory Domain Services and structure OUs.
  • Configure Group Policy for users and machines.
  • Set up DNS and DHCP services.
  • Implement role-based file share permissions.
  • Troubleshoot common domain and authentication issues.

Environment & scope

  • Windows Server domain controllers (lab VMs)
  • Active Directory OUs, users and groups
  • Group Policy Objects
  • DNS, DHCP and file services

Interview & discussion questions

  • How does Group Policy processing order affect the final applied settings?
  • What steps would you take to troubleshoot a failed domain login?
  • Why is DNS so critical to Active Directory health?
  • How do you design an OU structure that supports delegation?
  • What is the difference between share permissions and NTFS permissions?

This project is currently marked PLANNED. Implementation details, evidence and documentation will be added here as the build progresses — nothing is shown as complete before it is.
